HOW SHOULD I PLAY TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL ON STAGE
HOW SHOULD I PLAY TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL ON STAGE
The most common question I get in master classes and online consultations is "how should I play to become successful on stage?"

Some people think they don't practice enough. Some claim they don't have much time to practice. Others believe they play well, but since they don't get accepted to schools and win competitions, they need to get better. So it all comes down to working at your instrument to achieve perfection.

Let me ask you this: do you think you'll construct a perfect car by just screwing the bolts perfectly?
While aiming for perfect technique, we still need to remember several things:
  • Meaning is more important than technical excellence. If your performance is substantive, no one will care about a tiny error or two.
  • Developing the interpretation, form and structure is brainwork, not something you do with your hands and fingers. It's the same as going for a walk when you need to organize your thoughts.
  • Everyone has their own idea of perfection. It's a very subjective concept, especially in such abstractive art as music.
Would you expect a perfect car if we screw the bolts perfectly?
  • Quality is not the only component of success.
  • Hours and hours of practice still don't guarantee proficient playing. It's more about practicing wisely.
  • The richer your inner world is the more captivating is your music. Art exhibitions, concerts, interesting company – surround yourself with people and events that enrich, motivate, and inspire you.
In this race for perfect performance let's remember about the key thing - what message, image and feeling we would like to share with public.
